What
Is Our Purpose
The
purpose of the Outreach Committee is to reach out to individuals,
community groups, elected officials and all communities interested
in WBAI - to get the truth out about our radio station!
We
are reaching out by borough and region to the public at large, elected
officials, churches, community boards, block associations, and tenant
organizations.
Our
goal is to inform and mobilize the vast number of listeners who
we know are opposed to the firings, bannings and potential corporate
takeover of WBAI.
What
Are We Currently Working On We also are providing materials for all the branches of Concerned
Friends including those in New York City, Westchester and Rockland
Counties, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
We
are taking part in teach-ins, meetings, daily vigils at the
station, and leafleting at key locations. Some of the sub-committees
you can join are:
We
are working on the ongoing leafleting
campaign for the Concerned Friends of WBAI.
Volunteers
will attend community meetings, explain what Concerned Friends is
all about and sign people up to join our group.
They
will leaflet at subway stations, supermarkets and other locations
suggested by our members.
We
are contacting elected officials. We are organizing listeners
by zip code to form groups that will meet with elected officials
to inform them and garner their support for Resolution 1723. If
you want to help out with this task, please contact Rosalie Hoffman.
We
are working on printed materials for the Concerned Friends of
WBAI, preparing a media kit and its elements, including a brochure,
flyers, and information pages.
We
are working doing the visuals for the Concerned Friends of WBAI.
This subcommittee has produced a button, is working on caps and
tee shirts, and makes banners, and other artwork for posters and
masks used at our rallies and demonstrations.
We
are contacting Internet people (with this web site!), if you'd
like to help, contact webmaster@wbaiaction.org.
We
are working on the contact list for the Concerned Friends of
WBAI. This effort involves building a database of names who will
receive updates and be mobilized to take part in demonstrations.
We
are maintaining the 'phone tree' (if you've been called by either
a human or recorded message, that was us!).
If
you'd like to get involved in calling others to bring them into
our struggle (you'd be surprised how many questions the listeners
have these days these days - the gag rule isn't helping disseminate
information), please contact phonetree@wbaiaction.org,
or use the form to the left.
When
and Where Do Meet Our next meeting is Tuesday June 5, 6:30 PM, at 74 Trinity
Place (between Rector & Thames Sts.), on the 2nd floor "The Parlour."
We
will meet here each Tuesday through July. If you have questions
or want to confirm a meeting time or place please call our hotline
800 825 0055, or email us outreach@wbaiaction.org
